In New York State, anyone who wishes to be a first responder for emergency care must have a certificate. This certificate comes from the NYS Department of Health (NYSDOH).
A certified person is able to work for an organization that provides initial life-saving care for sick or injured people. They can also provide that care elsewhere.
Certified people must pass an exam and complete a training program. They must meet state requirements for first responders. They must be able to conduct several emergency procedures, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), trauma care, and emergency childbirth.
