Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) can get a Paramedic certificate. This certificate is also called the Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT-P) certificate. The certificate is from the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH).

The AEMT-P is the highest level of certification for pre-hospital emergency care.

An applicant must meet educational requirements and pass an exam. They must have all skills covered by the EMT-Basic and EMT-Intermediate certificates. Applicants must prove that they can perform advanced cardiac life support and basic trauma life support. These are covered by national standards. Applicants must know how to use a defibrillator and administer drugs and fluids by intravenous methods.
